12/5/2016

Picture
Concept Mapping within Arch identifies concepts essential for students to master to ensure learning of identified standards. It also streamlines the process of aligning these concepts to standards, units, lesson plans, assessments, and portfolios.  First, concept mapping combines:
  • Optional working copy of standards sets providing concept frameworks
  • Concept statements,
  • Unwrapped essential and supporting concept elements,
  • Concept-based learning targets, big ideas, and essential questions,
  • Depth of Knowledge agreement,
  • Curriculum mapping,
  • Alignment or mapping to standards elements, and
  • Searchable image, video and other web-based resources and files
The searchable, web-based resources are easily found by clicking the created learning targets, big ideas, or essential questions. Once found, these resources can be added to the related concept within the concept set.

Second, once the concept maps have been created, you can now use these maps to streamline your day-to-day planning, instructional, and assessment practices while enhancing overall quality of these practices.

One benefit of the Arch Standards tool teachers are most excited about is not only that the standards include unwrapped content, skills, learning targets, big ideas, and essential questions, but the learning targets, big ideas, and essential questions are SEARCHABLE!

For example, clicking on a specific learning target results in a second tab browser window showing a Google search. What can be done with the results you might ask? Well, you can:
  1. Select Images to locate images you can use within your Arch Plans, Assessments, and other Arch resources.
  2. Select Videos  to locate videos you can embed within your Arch Plans, Assessments and other Arch resources.
  3. Select Web Pages to add links to your Arch Plans, Assessments, and other Arch resources.
  4. Select other varied resources such as News, and Apps to incorporate other strategies for addressing planning and instruction.
  5. Assign within student coursework, instructions for students to use the searching options to research standards-specific concepts or topics. Once researched, students may report back to peers or the class their results.
  6. Quickly identify a range of Depth of Knowledge (DoK)-specific resources to support instruction and learning through a sequence of instructional plans.
Searchable standards maps streamline a high-quality process of identifying and using diverse curricular resources within your lesson plans, instruction, and assessments. It saves teachers and students alike a tremendous amount of time!
